Syrian President Bashar al-Assad offered his condolences on Sunday, mourning the death of Hezbollah’s Secretary-General, Hassan Nasrallah, who was assassinated in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburb on Friday.
In his message, Assad expressed: “My message is not to console you for the martyrdom of the leader of the resistance, as you have shown over the past decades resilience, strength, determination, and unity that have made you stronger than any calamity, no matter how great.”
Addressing Hassan Nasrallah’s family, Assad added, “Noble, pure blood is only shed for the sake of justice and its causes.” He further noted, “The resistance does not weaken with the martyrdom of its leader but remains deeply rooted in hearts and minds.”
Hezbollah announced on Saturday that its Secretary-General, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an Israeli airstrike.
Israel’s Intensified Attacks on Lebanon
Israel has escalated its attacks on Lebanon following the discovery of wireless communication devices used by Hezbollah members, including pagers and walkie-talkies. This recent wave of strikes marks the most intense Israeli bombardment on Lebanon in two decades.
The escalation comes nearly a year after the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
