A military convoy from the Operations Management in Syria was prevented from entering Sweida
Local armed factions in Sweida successfully blocked a military convoy affiliated with Hayat Tahrir
al-Sham (HTS) and its General Security apparatus from entering the city. The convoy, consisting
of dozens of vehicles, was met with resistance from the factions of the Joint Operations Room in
Sweida, who demanded its immediate return to Damascus. The convoy complied and turned back
to the capital.
Reports had circulated to the Joint Operations Room in Sweida about a significant military convoy
entering the governorate late at night without prior coordination or known affiliation. This lack of
coordination prompted local factions to mobilize and set up roadblocks on the Damascus-Sweida
highway.
Upon reaching one of these checkpoints, it was revealed that the convoy was under the command
of HTS’s General Security. The convoy’s leader stated their destination was the Sweida Police
Command headquarters.
According to a source from the Joint Operations Room, local factions insisted the military convoy
return to Damascus, especially given the ongoing communications between Sweida activists and
the military operations management in Damascus to manage security arrangements in the
governorate.
Sweida hosts various local armed factions which, two days before the regime’s fall, united under a
single Joint Operations Room, effectively expelling all regime forces and security centers from the
area. This incident underscores the local factions’ commitment to maintaining control over the
region’s security matters.
