Asma Al-Assad Critically Ill: Here Are Her Survival Chances
Amidst rumors about Asma Al-Assad seeking divorce following her husband’s escape and the fall of his regime on December 8th, reports have refocused on her health condition. According to “The Telegraph”, Asma Al-Assad is suffering from leukemia, with doctors estimating her chances of survival at 50%.
Reports indicate that the former Syrian First Lady is under medical isolation to avoid infection, not allowed to be in the same room with others. British media have noted that she is receiving medical care from her father, Fawaz Akhras, a prominent heart surgeon in London.
These developments come after the Assad family fled to Moscow following the opposition forces’ control over Damascus.
Diagnosis of Leukemia
The Syrian Presidency had previously announced in May that Asma Al-Assad was diagnosed with
a severe form of leukemia affecting the bone marrow and blood. It’s noted that Asma had
previously undergone treatment for breast cancer and announced her recovery in 2019 after a
year of treatment.
In related news, the Kremlin has denied Turkish media reports about Asma Al-Assad seeking divorce and her desire to leave Russia to return to London.
