Multiple Israeli Airstrikes Target Daraa in Southern Syria
On Monday, several Israeli airstrikes targeted the Daraa governorate in southern Syria, as reported by the official Syrian news agency “SANA.”
The agency stated that “Israeli occupation aircraft targeted the outskirts of the towns of Jabab and Izraa” in the northern part of Daraa governorate with “multiple airstrikes,” without specifying the nature of the targeted sites.
The airstrikes come a week after Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa urged the international community to pressure Israel for an “immediate” withdrawal from southern Syria, condemning the Israeli attacks, which he said target Syria’s security and stability.
Israel Intensifies Its Strikes
Since late last month, Israel has intensified its strikes on Syria amid Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s calls to make “southern Syria completely demilitarized,” asserting that Israel will not allow forces of the new Syrian administration to deploy south of the capital, Damascus.
Following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, Israel launched hundreds of airstrikes on military facilities, naval bases, and airbases across the country, claiming the objective is to prevent the Syrian army’s arsenal from falling into the hands of the new administration’s forces.
In parallel, Israeli forces advanced into the demilitarized buffer zone in the Golan Heights, located on the edges of the Israeli-occupied portion.
