Syria’s top diplomat welcomed the envoys as accredited and extraordinary ambassadors.
Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Miqdad received on Thursday the credentials of the ambassadors of Mauritania and the breakaway republic of Abkhazia (Georgia) to Syria.
The foreign minister received the envoys of the Abkhazia, Muhammad Ali, and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania Sidi Ould Doman, as accredited and extraordinary ambassadors, and received copies of their credentials.
This comes as 2023 witnessed the revival of relations between Syria and numerous Arab and Islamic governments following over a decade of severed relations in light of the US-backed international war on the country.
Moreover, this also saw Damascus led by President Bashar al-Assad reclaiming its seat in the Arab League.
The most notable rapprochement was with Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Tunisia, with the UAE’s ambassador arriving in Syria on Monday, and Saudi Arabia’s charge d’affaires due to arrive in Damascus on Saturday.
