That allowed the Russian forces “to control the movement of the enemy,” retired Lieutenant Colonel of the LPR People’s Militia says
The Russian air forces’ assault units have taken advantageous positions in the industrial zone of the city of Artyomovsk (Ukrainian name – Bakhmut) in the Donetsk People’s Republic, thus creating a ‘good bridgehead’ for further advancement, Andrey Marochko, retired Lieutenant Colonel of the LPR People’s Militia, told TASS on Sunday.
“In the town of Artyomovsk, the assault groups took advantageous positions in the territory of the Artyomovsk non-ferrous metals processing plant’s industrial zone,” he said.
Marochko specified that positions in the Artyomovsk industrial zone allowed the Russian forces “to control the movement of the enemy and also creates a good bridgehead for further advancement.”
On Saturday, the commander of the Ukrainian military’s Ground Forces, Alexander Syrsky, said that by continuing to fight near Artyomovsk, Ukrainian forces were trying to buy time to build up reserves before a spring counteroffensive.
Artyomovsk is located in the Kiev-controlled part of the Donetsk People’s Republic and is an important transport hub for supplying the Ukrainian group of troops in Donbass. Fierce fighting is taking place for the city. According to the latest reports, Russian forces have cut or taken under control all paved roads into the city. The onset of the muddy weather seriously hampers the delivery of ammunition and personnel to the Ukrainian units stationed there. On Saturday, Vagner PMC founder Yevgeny Prigozhin reported that Russian forces were 1.2 kilometers from the administrative center of Artyomovsk.
