Saudi Innovator: Support Transforms Women’s Lives, Nothing Stops Their Ambitions
Jana Sulaiman Al-Raifi, a young Saudi electrical engineering student, researcher, and innovator, recently spoke at the opening session of the 69th Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations headquarters in New York. During her speech, she passionately highlighted the critical importance of supporting women in various fields, particularly in science and technology. “I stand before you as a testament to the unwavering support of my family, my country, and global stakeholders who have worked tirelessly to empower young women like me,” Al-Raifi stated, emphasizing how this encouragement has been pivotal in shaping her journey.
Achievements Fueled by Support
Following the opening session, Jana spoke with UN News, sharing that she has earned numerous awards and gold medals in local and international competitions. She attributed her success to the continuous support she received from her family and homeland, which played a decisive role in helping her achieve her ambitions. Moreover, her journey in electrical engineering—a field traditionally dominated by men—has not deterred her. Instead, she sees it as an opportunity to inspire change. “I am here today to represent the voice of women in science and research, aiming to shift this outdated perception in the future,” she explained confidently.
Empowering the Next Generation
Jana also delivered an empowering message to Arab girls, stressing that excellence and success require only determination and willpower. “Nothing stands between you and your dreams,” she urged, encouraging them to take pride in their achievements. Additionally, she noted that the overarching message of the conference centered on global support for women and girls across all sectors. “We look forward to more excellence and success stories in the coming years, God willing,” she added optimistically.
A Call for Greater Investment
Furthermore, Al-Raifi called on Arab leaders to provide both moral and financial support to those willing to invest in girls and women in the workforce. Her words resonate as a reminder of the transformative power of opportunity. Meanwhile, this year’s Commission on the Status of Women, chaired by Saudi Arabia, coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration, aiming to evaluate its implementation and address challenges to gender equality.
