Iranian foreign minister Hossein Amirabdollahian assures his Lebanese counterpart Abdullah Bou Habib of Iran’s support for any agreement regarding the election of a president.
On Thursday Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Lebanese counterpart Abdullah Bou Habib discussed a number of files, the most important of which are the repercussions of the Iranian-Saudi agreement on the region, as well as the current situation in Lebanon.
Yesterday, Amir-Abdollahian declared, upon his arrival at the Rafiq Hariri International Airport in Beirut, that Iran sees Lebanese security as an integral part of the region’s and Iran’s.
The Foreign Minister’s words came during a press conference held at the Beirut airport after he was received by the Lebanese Foreign Minister and some MPs and diplomats from the Iranian embassy.
In a joint press conference with the Lebanese FM, Amir-Abdollahian encouraged all parties in Lebanon to communicate and accelerate the electoral process for the presidency.
The Iranian diplomat assured that Lebanon’s parties are capable of electing a president without any external interference.
He pointed out that discussions took place between the two FMs regarding multiple issues such as the agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia and developments in occupied Palestine, Ukraine, Sudan, and Afghanistan.
In turn, Bou Habib indicated that he was briefed by Amir-Abdollahian on the details of the agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia, assuring that all agreements between neighboring nations are of benefit to Lebanon and the region as a whole, considering it is a crucial part of peace within the region.
The Iranian top diplomat’s last visit came in January when he arrived for consultations with his Lebanese counterpart and some other high-ranking Lebanese officials.
