The Afghan Minister of Industry and Trade, Nouruddin Azizi, said that his country is studying the issue of purchasing oil products from some Russian companies, and is willing to sign an agreement with the “Tat Neft” company.
In an interview with “Novosti” correspondent on the sidelines of the International Economic Forum “Russia – the Islamic World: Kazan Forum”, the minister added: “Last year, we held meetings with Russian oil companies, including from Tatarstan. We need about 4 million tons of oil products.” “We provide some of them through Turkmenistan and Iran. However, we want to conclude good agreements with Russian companies, especially with Tatneft. We hope to continue discussions on that.”
The minister stressed that the US sanctions impede economic cooperation between Moscow and Kabul, and indicated that the interest of the Afghan people requires exceptions from the restrictive measures.
He said: “There is the problem of restrictions, or rather sanctions – against Russia by the United States and a number of other countries, as well as restrictions imposed on Afghanistan regarding the transfer of funds.”
According to him, the Afghan people are in a difficult situation, and therefore exceptions must be made that could allow cooperation between Russia and Afghanistan.
