The attack has taken place in Al-Multaqa subdistrict of Al-Dibis area outside the northern city of Kirkuk.
ISIS terrorists targeted an army barracks in northern Iraq on Saturday night, killing two officers and wounding three soldiers.
In a statement, Iraq’s Joint Operations Command (JOC) said that the attack occurred in Al-Multaqa subdistrict of Al-Dibis area outside the northern city of Kirkuk.
“At 10pm yesterday, terrorist elements attacked with light and medium weapons a military barracks,” it said.
The JOC affirmed that ISIS was behind the “cowardly act”, adding that an investigation is underway.
It also promised an “immediate and unexpected response that will shake the ground under their feet.”
The Iraqi military forces continue their efforts to wipe out the remnants of ISIS from the country. With the cooperation of the Iraqi army, the Peshmerga forces, and the Popular Mobilization Forces, operation Swords of Righteousness started its fifth phase about two weeks ago in the governorates of Diyala, Kirkuk, and Tuz Khurmatu in order to hunt down any remaining ISIS terrorists.
At the beginning of this month, the Iraqi Air Force successfully eliminated three terrorists affiliated with ISIS in an airstrike in the Hamrin Mountains.
At the time, Iraqi military intelligence sources told Al Mayadeen that three terrorists were killed in an airstrike in the Hamrin operations sector.
The Iraqi F-16 aircraft carried out the airstrike, targeting ISIS militants in Lake Hamrin, east of the country.
