In a phone call with Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riyad al-Maliki called today for international intervention to press the Israeli occupation authorities to allow Palestinian elections to be held in occupied Jerusalem.
During the conversation, al-Malki addressed the Israeli occupation’s confiscation of Palestinian tax funds under various pretexts. He highlighted the recent trilateral summit involving Palestine, Egypt, and Jordan, which was held in the Egyptian city of El-Alamein, which was aimed at pressuring Israel to halt its unilateral actions and comply with international decisions and laws.
Al-Malki commended Finland for its unconditional support for Palestine, urging the country to rally other European and international partners to pressure Israel to allow Palestinian elections to be held in East Jerusalem, in line with signed agreements and under the guarantee of the United States and other relevant nations.
The Foreign Minister emphasized Palestine’s readiness to hold the elections, which are seen as a vital step to renew Palestinian legitimacy and revive the democratic process within the Palestinian society, parties, and active forces.
The call comes amidst ongoing efforts by the Palestinian leadership to conduct long-awaited elections, aiming to rejuvenate the Palestinian political landscape and restore democratic processes within the region.
