Total Energy and its partners Eni and Qatar Power have announced the launch of exploration activities in Block 9 in Lebanese territorial waters.
Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati pointed out during his tour of the drilling rig accompanied by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nabih Berri, that what has been achieved is an achievement that records the homeland and the Lebanese people, who are patient with their ordeals, and it is a bright page in the country’s history.
During the tour, Mikati and Berri were briefed on the logistical preparations for the start of excavation work on Block 9.
Romain de Lamartinière, General Manager of Total Energy in Lebanon, said: “Drilling operations will begin in a few days, thanks to the commitment of Total Energies teams and the support of the Lebanese authorities and our partners.”
“The exploration well will allow us to assess the hydrocarbon resources and production potential of this area,” he noted.
Charbel Skaf, a university professor specializing in energy affairs, said that “after the arrival of the drilling rig and the completion of all logistical preparations, in principle, the expected period for drilling is about two months, and the period may vary less or more by ten days, of course, relative to the issue of the quality of the sedimentary layers.”
