The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Damascus held a reception on the occasion of the 97th birth anniversary of the late leader Fidel Castro and the 58th anniversary of the establishment of Syrian-Cuban relations at the ambassador’s residence.
The Cuban Ambassador in Damascus, Luis Mariano Fernandez Rodrigues, stressed during his speech the depth and strength of the relations that bind Syria and Cuba, and their participation in identical stances at all international forums in support of just causes and the causes of other peoples of the world, stressing that his country was and will always be on the side of the brave and steadfast Syrian people.
The ambassador pointed out that the geographical distance between Damascus and Havana was not an obstacle to laying the bases for a relationship that would develop and consolidate over time, despite the conspiracies that some insist on imposing on international relations in flagrant violation of all principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.
Ambassador Rodrigues pointed to the plans and projects that the two countries were subjected to in an attempt to destroy their legitimate governments, the ongoing economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba for more than 62 years, and sabotage acts aimed at destabilizing the Cuban interior, while a terrorist war was imposed on Syria for more than 12 years, accompanied by unilateral criminal sanctions.
Rodrigues added that Cuba condemns the Israeli occupation of the Golan, and has been and still supports the return of the Golan and all those lands illegally occupied by foreign powers and against the will of this people to Syria.
He also pointed out that there is political and great will among the leadership of the two countries to take advantage of all opportunities despite the complex economic conditions and challenges to continue expanding the level of relations in the economic, cultural, sports, scientific and educational fields.
