Kremlin Spokesperson says the officials discussed the situation in Libya, as well as the entire region.
Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Libyan National Army (LNA) commander Khalifa Haftar in Moscow, where they addressed the situation in Libya and the region in general, Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told Sputnik.
The meeting was also confirmed by the LNA on social media, citing that Haftar arrived on Tuesday.
“Yes, we confirm that a meeting with Haftar has indeed taken place. [It] discussed the situation in Libya and the region in general,” Peskov stated.
In a social media statement, the LNA noted that its “Commander Marshal Khalifa Haftar held a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu in the Russian capital of Moscow.”
Haftar, who runs the East side of two rival sides in Libya since the 2011 NATO-fueled conflict, has always maintained good relations with Russia.
Peskov confirmed to TASS that the leaders discussed the situation in Libya situation, as well as the whole region.
During his visit, Haftar met with Deputy Defense Minister Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, a frequent traveler to Libya in recent years. He met with Haftar on September 17 days after Storm Daniel rocked the coastal city of Derna.
