Matthew Miller, the State Department spokesman, said Blinken will discuss “the importance of protecting civilian lives” during his meetings in Jordan.
As we reported yesterday, the US secretary of state will also be in Israel on Friday to meet with Premier Netanyahu and other Israeli government leaders.
“[Blinken] will reiterate us support for Israel’s right to defend itself in accordance with international humanitarian law and discussed the need to take all precautions to minimise civilian casualties, as well as our work to deliver humanitarian assistance,” Miller told reporters this afternoon.
Blinken’s trip to the region comes as Jordan withdrew its ambassador to Israel earlier today over the Israeli military’s continued attacks on Palestinians in Gaza.
