During a phone call with Hamas and other Palestinian factions, Russia ’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov demanded the release of captives held in Gaza, the Foreign Ministry said.
The statement followed a series of meetings and calls between President Putin and Middle Eastern leaders, including Israeli PM Netanyahu.
On Sunday, Netanyahu voiced his displeasure with “anti-Israel positions” taken by Moscow’s envoys at the UN after Russia backed a UN Security Council resolution calling for a humanitarian ceasefire.
Since the war broke out following the October 7 Hamas attack, Russia has increasingly been more critical of Israel and its conduct during the conflict.
