President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed today the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, along with his accompanying delegation, at the presidential headquarters in the city of Ramallah.
During the meeting, President Abbas briefed the Italian guest on the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly in the Gaza Strip. He discussed the ongoing efforts to halt the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, emphasizing the urgency of delivering humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
The President highlighted the importance of enabling shelters and hospitals in Gaza to fulfill their roles in alleviating the suffering of the local Palestinian population.
Meanwhile, President Abbas reiterated his firm rejection of the forced displacement of the Palestinian people, underscoring that “there is no security or military solution for the Gaza Strip.”
He emphasized that “Gaza is an integral part of the State of Palestine, and any attempts by the occupying authorities to separate the Strip from the West Bank, including Jerusalem, or to reoccupy it are unacceptable.”
The President stressed the imperative need for Israel to cease its practices and attacks aimed at undermining the two-state solution, condemning the daily assaults practiced by terror Israeli settler militias and occupation forces. He called for the release of Palestinian tax funds withheld by Israel.
Affirming commitment to international legitimacy, President Abbas underscored the necessity for the State of Palestine gaining full membership in the United Nations, as well as the convening of an international peace conference.
