Al Jazeera’s Tareq Abu Azzouz has spoken to residents of the al-Dahra neighbourhood of Khan Younis, where flee residents came under Israeli army gunfire earlier today.
Video verified by Al Jazeera captured the incident, in which Israeli army vehicles opened fire on displaced Palestinians after they were ordered to flee their homes and makeshift shelters.
Press sources told Al Jazeera that many residents of al-Dahra were wounded by the gunfire.
“One of the people informed us that [the Israeli army] has been gathering men and women and forcing them to take a certain road to Rafah,” Abu Azzoum said.
As they were fleeing, the residents said, they came under attack from Israeli forces, who subjected them to gunfire.
They told Abu Azzoum they had no certainty of survival as they left their homes for Rafah, but felt they had no other choice for their safety but to make the journey.
