The US senator has released a statement calling on the US to restore funding to UN’s Palestinian relief agency, after it paused the funding last week amid Israeli allegations that some of its staff participated in Hamas’s October 7 attacks on Israel.
“Obviously, it’s not acceptable for any of the 13,000 UNRWA employees in Gaza to be involved with Hamas, and the allegations against the 12 people charged must be investigated. However, we cannot allow millions to suffer because of the actions of 12 people,” Sanders said in a statement on Tuesday, noting that 1.1 million people in Gaza are at risk of starvation.
“The US and other countries must restore funding to stave off this humanitarian catastrophe.”
