Sweden ’s International Development Cooperation Agency will pause the humanitarian funds that would have been paid to the UNRWA.
Johan Forssell, the minister for international development cooperation and foreign trade, is quoted in various Swedish media outlets as saying that the money will instead go to other humanitarian organisations which operate in the occupied Palestinian territories and Lebanon.
Several countries including the US, the UK and Australia have withdrawn their financial support for the UNRWA after allegations that some of its staff were involved in Hamas’s October 7 attacks.
Sweden joins fellow Nordic country Finland in halting the funds, whereas Norway will continue to support the UN agency.
