Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held discussions, on Friday, with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in Caracas.
According to diplomatic sources who spoke anonymously due to media communication restrictions, Fidan expressed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s appreciation for Venezuela’s steadfast backing of Palestine.
They also discussed Erdogan’s upcoming visit to the South American nation, with the sources noting that the Turkish Foreign Minister underscored Ankara’s principled stance that the future of Venezuela should be determined solely by its people. Fidan conveyed that Turkish authorities do not endorse unilateral sanctions against Venezuela, as per the sources.
The Turkish minister expressed contentment with Caracas’ efforts to address conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy. Maduro and Fidan also delved into matters concerning economic, trade, and tourism collaboration, affirming their commitment to augment the bilateral trade volume through strategic sector investments, the sources added. Additionally, discussions encompassed energy-related aspects during the meeting.
On his account, Maduro said in a post on X: “Excellent meeting with the Foreign Minister of Türkiye, Hakan Fidan. With the sister nation of Türkiye, we are consolidating a strong friendship with a busy work agenda, concrete agreements, and tangible achievements that in action and practice are for the shared well-being of our peoples.”
“We continue together on this path,” he stressed.
In the same context, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil held discussions, on Saturday, with his counterpart Hakan Fidan, where Gil highlighted that they have “aligned on new areas of collaboration for the mutual benefit of our populations within the framework of the emerging multipolar world and solidarity.”
