The Syrian Foreign Minister Mekdad discusses how the West polarized chemical weapon use organizations to cover “Israel’s” crimes and sustain its hegemony.
In a video-recorded statement to a conference on disarmament in Geneva, the Syrian Foreign Minister, Faisal Mekdad, said “We see further erosion regarding the West’s obligations at regional and international levels due to its insistence on following an approach that aims at sustaining its hegemony and military superiority at the expense of other nations and people’s stability, security, and existence.”
Mekdad further affirmed that the West’s statements do not match its actions and that the “ferocious Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, and the besieged people of Palestine, would not have extended into its fifth month had the United States and its vassal countries not supported the occupation and provided it with political impunity.”
“Syria confirms that the United Nations conference aimed at creating nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction free zone in the Middle East, which Israel and the US refuse to participate in, does not constitute an alternative path to the relevant resolution issued in 1995”, he added.
The Syrian minister recalled the Syrian experience with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and commented on the dangerous polarization occurring within it and the dominance of Western countries over the work of its technical secretariat, to target Syria by establishing mechanisms outside the mandate of the Convention, and lacking the lowest standards of neutrality and professionalism.
He recapitulated saying “The West’s behavior magnified the danger of chemical terrorism and encouraged terrorist organizations to possess chemical weapons, develop them, and use them against Syrian civilians and the Syrian Arab Army, to which the West responded by neglect, adopted the terrorists’ narrative, and used it as a pretext for military aggression against Syria.”
The West does not accept powerful countries
On Wednesday, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad affirmed that his country and Russia are both facing the same enemy.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad emphasized that the Syrian-Russian relationship transcends politics, economy, and military cooperation, extending to social and popular dimensions. He highlighted the role of youth in shaping the future of this relationship during a speech at a meeting with participants in the Syrian-Russian youth camp.
“Both countries and people adhere to principles and dignity, and today we confront the same enemies and the same lies. Neo-Nazis in Ukraine attack civilians and Russia is the accused, and what happened in Syria is exactly similar,” President al-Assad said.
“If President Putin had not taken the decision to fight terrorism in Syria, the number of terrorists would have doubled in Russia, Some ask why President Putin sent planes to Syria, the answer is that he was protecting Russia and its people first and foremost,” he tersely stated.
“The West is not hostile to Russia because of Ukraine or because it was a communist country, it has been hostile to it for three centuries because it was transforming from a weak country to a strong one, and the West does not accept powerful countries,” he said.
