Large caught volumes make possible for Russian fishermen to deliver pollock for exports and to the domestic market, Alexey Buglak said
MOSCOW, March 29. /TASS/. Russian fishermen caught 920,000 metric tons of pollock by March 25, 2024, which is 6.5% more than in the like period of the last year, President of the Pollock Catchers Association Alexey Buglak said at a press conference in TASS.
“Pollock is the main wild capture resource of our country with the share in the national catch above 35%. The catch was over 1.9 mln metric tons last year and became the highest over the last 25 years. 920,000 metric tons of pollock have already been caught this year, which is 6.5% more than in the like period of the last year,” Buglak said.
Large caught volumes make possible for Russian fishermen to deliver pollock for exports and to the domestic market, the expert said. Pollock supplies to the Russian domestic market gained 52% to almost 200,000 metric tons last year.
Pollock is among the most popular fish species in Russia and is ranked third, Buglak noted. “This is for a reason. It has a universal taste and is simple in cooking,” he added.
