The Russian government will relinquish its power on the inauguration day of the newly elected President and the process of new Cabinet forming will start.
Vladimir Putin was officially reelected as the President during the election on March 15-17. According to the law, the inauguration of the head of state is to be held on May 7 and the Cabinet will step down on the same day.
The President will appoint the Prime Minister after approval of his candidacy by the State Duma, the lower house of the Russian legislative assembly. The head of state will also appoint deputy prime ministers and federal ministers following their approval by the lower house of the Russian parliament.
Ministers of Interior, Emergencies, Defense, Foreign Affairs and Justice constitute an exception. The head of state will appoint them after consultations with the Federation Council, the upper house of the Russian legislative assembly.
