Political Bureau member of Hamas, Izzat al-Rishq confirmed that the movement continues to adhere to its position regarding the ceasefire proposal approved by mediators.
Political Bureau member of Hamas, Izzat al-Rishq has confirmed that “Israel’s” invasion of Rafah and occupation of the crossing only aims to block the efforts of mediators and escalate the aggression and genocide.
In a statement, al-Rishq expressed that the movement continues to adhere to its position regarding the ceasefire proposal approved by mediators.
He revealed that the Hamas delegation left the Egyptian capital, Cairo, a short while ago, heading to the Qatari capital, Doha.
Deputy secretary-general of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) movement, Mohammad al-Hindi, considered Tuesday that the proposal for a ceasefire agreement has not collapsed, clarifying that it is currently “in the hands of the mediators.”
On Monday, the Israeli war cabinet unanimously decided to proceed with the invasion of Rafah, just a few hours after Hamas informed mediators that it had agreed to a proposed ceasefire agreement.
Al-Hindi affirmed to Al Mayadeen that there is a national consensus on the draft agreement endorsed by the mediators, including the United States, adding that the document presented by Hamas on behalf of the Resistance factions represents the Palestinian national stance.
The PIJ official indicated that the Palestinian consensus is met with Israeli confusion, adding that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has lost all means of pressure and does not want an agreement, as it would depict the end of his political career.
He reiterated that the stance of the Resistance remains clear and prioritizes the interests of the Palestinian people, which is also echoed by the mediators who are today under trial.
Al-Hindi mentioned that the main issue that needed to be discussed in the agreement was a ceasefire and its “sustainability”, affirming that the mediators provided guarantees for a permanent cessation of hostilities.
The Palestinian official said, contrary to Israeli claims, that “Israel’s” approval of the mediators’ proposal was conveyed to the Resistance.
‘Israel’ threatens to halt negotiations after US blocked arms delivery
Israeli officials warned that the pause in the weapons shipment could jeopardize ongoing captive negotiations, sources informed Axios on Wednesday.
This information comes after US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that the US has decided to hold up a delivery of weapons and munitions to “Israel” after the latter carried out an offensive on Rafah without Washington’s approval.
In response to the decision to pause the weapons shipment, Israeli officials were reportedly sent scrambling to seek an explanation from their American counterparts.
According to the Axios report, Israeli officials expressed deep frustration not only over the decision to halt the weapons shipment but also over its disclosure to the media.
Israeli officials also raised concerns about the timing of the move potentially jeopardizing efforts to secure a deal for the release of captives and a temporary ceasefire amid negotiations in Cairo.
They further conveyed their expectation for the US to continue standing with “Israel” in its war on Gaza and reiterated their concerns that US pressure on “Israel” could hinder progress in negotiations, as per the report.
