The Permanent Representative of Tunisia to the United Nations, Ambassador Tarek Ladeb, today affirmed his country’s support for the legitimate and natural right of the State of Palestine especially since it meets all the requirements of becoming a full UN member.
Ladeb stressed in a press statement that this right is considered an inherent part of the legitimate right of the Palestinians to self-determination, so that Palestine could continue its efforts with the international community to end the occupation and put an end to the practices of oppression against the Palestinian people.
He reaffirmed Tunisia’s firm and principled support for the right of the Palestinian people to recover their legitimate, inalienable rights, which are not subject to statute of limitations, foremost of which is the right to self-determination and the embodiment of their independent and sovereign state on the lines of June 4, 1967, as well as the State of Palestine’s right to full membership in the UN, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Ladeb further called on international community and the Security Council once again to assume their historical, legal and moral responsibilities to stop the ongoing massacres against the Palestinian people in Gaza and in the rest of the occupied Palestinian territory.
He also called for the need to reveal facts regarding the discovery of mass graves as well as to stopping the supply of weapons to the occupation forces.
Tunisia also called for the need to immediately stop the crimes committed by the occupation against the Palestinian people and held accountable those responsible for genocide.
Ladeb called on the international community to stand firmly far from any political calculations or double standards to prevent to halt to prevent another crime targeting more than 1.5 million forcibly displaced Palestinians in Rafah, and to allow the entry of humanitarian aid and all life’s necessities to the Strip.
He called on the Security Council to positively reconsider the request for full membership of the State of Palestine in the United Nations, which represents a first step on the path to correcting a long-standing abnormal situation that is inconsistent with all principles of right and justice and the purposes of the United Nations Charter.
