President Mahmoud Abbas today discussed with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron the ongoing Israeli genocidal aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and Israeli army and colonists assaults in the West Bank.
In a phone call with his French counterpart Macron, President Abbas stressed the need to halt immediately that Israeli aggression on Gaza, allow the entry of humanitarian and medical aid to and ensure full Israeli withdrawal from the Strip as well as a halt of army and colonist assaults in the West Bank and Jerusalem and secure the release of the clearance revenues withheld by Israel.
He stressed the importance of the expanding wave of recognition of Palestinian statehood by the European countries, which gives hope to the Palestinian people that they can achieve their aspirations for freedom and independence, as he called on the rest of the European countries that have not recognized Palestinian statehood to do so and support Palestine’s bid for full UN membership.
He also stressed the necessity for international efforts to oblige Israel to comply with the UN resolutions and international courts’ rulings, notably the ICJ ruling, that ordered it to halt its military invasion of Rafah.
The President affirmed the Palestinian government’s commitment to its Institutional Reform and Financial and Economic Stability Program, calling on the international community and France to put pressure on Israel to release releases in full the Palestinian clearance revenues it has withheld and halt any deductions from the revenues.
He commended France for its significant support to the Palestinian people at the political and financial levels, and for its role in building and developing Palestinian institutions.
He urged the French President to translate the strong French-Palestinian friendship into concrete reality by recognizing the State of Palestine and mobilizing European support for Palestine’s full UN membership as a prelude to initiating a political path that would end the Israeli occupation of the territories of the State of Palestine and embody the establishment of the Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on UN resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
