The state of Palestine participated in the seventeenth session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, held in New York.
Palestinian Minister for Social Development, Samah Hamad, said the community of persons with disabilities in Palestine carries a disproportionate share of the suffering; noting that the number of persons with disabilities doubled in the last eight months as a result of the ongoing Israeli aggression, including among children, mothers, fathers and the elderly, whose life has changed irreversibly.
She called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and to put an end to the suffering to allow the start of the healing process for everyone, particularly for those with disabilities.
The Minister called on the international community to stand by the Palestinian people and create a future where people with disabilities are not a symbol of limitation, but a symbol of strength and potential.
The conference witnessed a great degree of international solidarity with the State of Palestine in the face of Israeli aggression.
The ministerial speeches of the participating countries did not cease to demand a ceasefire in Gaza and adherence to the provisions of the Convention that demand the protection of people with disabilities, who are among the groups most affected by the Israeli aggression against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.
In her address to the conference, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza.
