The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned on Thursday of catastrophic environmental and health risks in the Gaza Strip.
In a post on X, UNRWA said that “as of 9 June, over 330,000 tons of waste have accumulated in or near populated areas across Gaza, posing catastrophic environmental & health risks. Children rummage through trash daily.”
“Unimpeded humanitarian access + #CeasefireNow are crucial to restore humane living conditions,” it added.
The Israeli occupation forces’ aggression on land, sea and air against the Gaza Strip began on October 7, 2023, and has so far resulted in the killing of more than 37,202 people and injuring of 84,932 others, while thousands of victims remain under the rubble.
