President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and French President Emmanuel Macron have called for intensified joint international actions to prevent the Gaza war expansion and to prevent the region from descending into a new cycle of unaccounted conflict.
In a phone call on Tuesday, both leaders discussed several regional and international issues of mutual concern, notably the situation in the Gaza Strip.
“The two presidents agreed on the importance of intensifying joint international action, to prevent the conflict from expanding and preventing the region from slipping into a new cycle of unaccounted conflict,” read a statement by the Egyptian presidency.
President El-Sisi outlined Egypt’s ongoing mediation efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire and a detainee swap deal. He stressed the need for unified international efforts to ensure the success of these mediation efforts.
El-Sisi also called for joint international efforts to ensure the delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid into Gaza to alleviate the harsh conditions faced by the people of Gaza due to the Israeli military operations.
For his part, the French President commended Egypt’s relentless de-escalation efforts since the Gaza war began in October last year, according to the statement.
El-Sisi and Macron stressed the need to promote the two-state solution and ensure the establishment of a Palestinian state in line with international resolutions to achieve lasting security and stability in the region.
Egyptian-French Ties
The call also emphasized the deep-rooted Egyptian-French relations, with both presidents expressing their desire to continue working together to enhance bilateral cooperation, particularly in economic areas.
The statement noted that many French companies and institutions have been involved in Egypt’s development process over recent years.
