Ramy Abbas, the agent of Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, has reignited controversy with “angry” remarks about the renewal of Salah’s contract with Liverpool.
The discussion around Salah intensified following his fiery comments after a match against Manchester United. Salah told Sky Sports with notable detachment, “I’m trying to enjoy my football because, as you know, this might be my last season at Liverpool.”
Salah’s remarks set Liverpool fans ablaze, prompting calls for the club’s management to extend Salah’s contract, which is set to expire at the end of the 2024-2025 season.
On Friday, Ramy Abbas, Salah’s Colombian agent, took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the situation: “For your information, all those journalists claiming to have insider knowledge about Mohamed Salah’s future have nothing concrete.”
He continued, “They pretend to have inside information but are really just seeking attention.”
Abbas concluded, “The term ‘close sources to Salah’ is nonexistent. This post is to inform you if you didn’t know.”
Salah’s stellar performance in the first three matches has been central to the “contract renewal” game that Abbas is playing with the club’s management. It has given Abbas leverage in the media and with fans, as he negotiates Salah’s future.
Liverpool and its management remain “silent” regarding the Egyptian star, and so far, they have not taken action to address Salah’s potential departure, which could indeed mark the end of his tenure with the Reds.
