Kamala Harris, the U.S. Vice President, responded to the announcement from Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s campaign on Sunday about a shooting that occurred near him.
Harris condemned the political violence following the incident close to Trump, his rival in the upcoming November elections. She stated, “I have been informed about reports of gunfire near former President Trump and his properties in Florida, and I am relieved that he is safe.” She added, “There is no place for violence in America.”
On Sunday, the White House confirmed that President Biden and Vice President Harris “feel relieved” after hearing that Republican candidate Trump is safe following the shooting. The White House issued a statement saying, “The President and Vice President were briefed on the security incident at Trump International Golf Club, where former President Trump was playing golf. They felt reassured to learn that he is safe.”
Stephen Cheung, a spokesperson for Trump’s campaign, said in a statement, “President Trump is safe after the shooting occurred nearby. There are no further details at this time.”
Trump was playing golf at his West Palm Beach, Florida, golf course, near his Mar-a-Lago residence, on a day he was not engaged in his presidential campaign, according to multiple media reports. He was accompanied by his security team when the gunfire happened.
Media reports indicate that a weapon was found at the scene, reportedly an AK-47 rifle.
