Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has announced plans to set a timetable for the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Sudani stated that there is no longer a need for American troops in Iraq, as the country has largely succeeded in defeating ISIS. He explained, “The justifications are no longer there… there’s no need for the coalition.” He added, “We have moved from war to stability. ISIS no longer poses a significant challenge.”
The presence of U.S. troops in Iraq remains a topic of debate. Some argue that the time has come for their departure, while others believe the U.S. military presence is essential to prevent any external forces from destabilizing the country.
Currently, around 2,500 American soldiers are stationed in Iraq as part of the international coalition against ISIS.
