On Thursday morning, areas close to Tel Aviv were struck by drone attacks, prompting Israel’s defense systems to engage in efforts to intercept the drones. As of yet, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which coincides with intense Israeli airstrikes on Beirut and its southern suburbs.
According to Israeli media reports, residents of Tel Aviv and nearby areas reported hearing explosions, believed to be caused by Israel’s attempts to intercept the drone attack. The Israeli military confirmed that the “Air Force intercepted a suspicious airborne object in the maritime airspace, off the coast of Gush Dan.”
Later, the Israeli army announced the detection of two additional drones and the interception of a third drone in the maritime airspace off the Gush Dan coast, with one drone reportedly crashing in an open area.
Gush Dan is a large metropolitan area in Israel, encompassing the Tel Aviv district and central areas, as well as a small part of the southern region. Israeli Channel 12 also reported that warning sirens blared in Bat Yam, located south of Tel Aviv.
In a related development, Israeli media reported the activation of alarms due to fears of drones infiltrating the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
