On Saturday, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz responded to French President Emmanuel Macron, who had called for a halt to the delivery of arms for the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Macron made his remarks during an interview with France Inter, stating, “I believe the priority today is to return to a political solution and to stop delivering weapons for the fighting in Gaza.” He emphasized that France “is not involved in supplying weapons.”
Katz’s Response to Macron
In his reply, Katz referenced historical context, saying, “In 1967, French President de Gaulle imposed an arms embargo on Israel, and we achieved a great victory afterward.” He added, “Now President Macron wants to impose another embargo, and this time too, the people of Israel will prevail.”
Katz further emphasized the need to defeat terrorist organizations, remarking, “History will judge those who try to interfere with this.”
Netanyahu’s Message to Macron
Later, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed Macron in a direct message, stating, “Israel will win, with or without you, but your shame will echo long after Israel’s victory.”
Earlier this week, Macron addressed the UN General Assembly, reiterating that “Israel has the right to defend itself against Hamas, but the war in Gaza has gone on for too long.” He added, “There is no justification for the deaths of thousands of civilians, and we call for a ceasefire as soon as possible.
