Spain’s King Felipe VI expressed deep concern over the ongoing conflict in Gaza, describing the destruction in the region as “indescribable.” On Saturday, he called for an immediate end to the war, especially as the violence has now spread to Lebanon.
During a meeting with the Spanish community in Jordan, King Felipe VI remarked, “At this moment, we are united by a profound desire for peace and dialogue,” as reported by the Jordan News Agency.
He further stated, “The conflict that started over a year ago has brought us images of indescribable suffering and devastation in Gaza, which is now worsening as it extends into Lebanon. This must end as soon as possible.”
A Call for Diplomacy and a Two-State Solution
King Felipe VI emphasized the urgent need to stop the humanitarian catastrophe and silence the weapons. He added, “We want to see an end to this human tragedy and a return to the path of politics and diplomacy.”
He also advocated for intensified efforts to achieve a two-state solution, which he said would lay the groundwork for lasting peace between Palestinians and Israelis.
Spain officially recognized the State of Palestine on May 28, joining Norway and Ireland in this step. Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares emphasized that recognizing Palestine is “a matter of justice for the Palestinian people and the best guarantee of security for Israel.”
