International Coalition Commander: We Couldn’t Maneuver Due to Russia and Iran’s Presence in Syria
General Brooks, the commander of the International Coalition in the Middle East, stated on Tuesday that the area east of the Euphrates in Syria is under international protection and agreements, and they will not allow any disturbance to its stability.
Turkey has threatened, through its officials, to launch a military operation within Syrian territories. Earlier today, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) stated in a release that Turkey is planning to attack the city of Kobani, “preparing a large number of its forces and mercenaries along the border.”
The international coalition commander’s remarks came during a meeting held today in Raqqa, attended by local sheikhs and figures, including General Mazlum Abdi, the overall commander of the SDF. In this meeting, he mentioned that negotiations with both the coalition and Turkey are ongoing to reach a permanent ceasefire agreement.
Fawaz Al-Bayk, one of Raqqa’s sheikhs, told North Press that General Brooks said during the meeting, “The situation in Syria changed after Bashar al-Assad’s fall; previously, we couldn’t maneuver because of Russia and Iran’s presence in Syria and due to our conflicting relations with them.”
The coalition commander added that they are repositioning their forces in northern Syria, “we might establish new bases here.”
The American official did not specify the new deployment locations but confirmed the establishment of a base in Raqqa.
