Syrian Interim Government Warns Tehran Against “Spreading Chaos” in Syria
In response to Iranian statements, the Syrian caretaker government has warned Tehran against “spreading chaos” in Syria. Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shibani cautioned Iran, holding them responsible for “the consequences of recent statements.”
On his account on the X platform, Asaad Al-Shibani wrote: “Iran must respect the will of the Syrian people, the sovereignty and safety of the country, and we warn them against spreading chaos in Syria, holding them accountable for the consequences of recent statements.”
On Monday
The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that Tehran does not currently have “direct contact with the governing authority in Syria.”
Spokesperson Ismael Bagheri noted that
“we have had communications with the Syrian opposition for a long time due to the paths towards crisis resolution,” considering that “American interventions in the region have led to destabilizing security and stability.”
He emphasized that “everyone in the region believes in the necessity of maintaining Syrian sovereignty, the unity of its territories, and letting its people determine their fate without destructive foreign interference,” adding: “Syria must not become a haven for terrorism, and there is a consensus that the lack of security there affects the countries of the region.”
This statement came after Yaghoub Reza Zadeh, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament, revealed that “Tehran has indirectly conveyed messages to the military operations administration in Syria, urging them to ensure the security of the Iranian embassy and holy sites.”
Meanwhile, Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani disclosed ongoing diplomatic discussions between her country and the concerned parties in Syria for reopening the embassies in Damascus and Tehran.
Iranian Foreign Minister
Abbas Araghchi had previously warned of “the possibility of terrorism returning to Syria due to the chaos it is witnessing, which could pose a threat to the entire Middle East region.”
In an interview with journalist Amr Abdel Hamid on Egypt’s Al-Ghad channel, Araghchi said: “We
warn of the danger of terrorism returning to Syria as a result of the chaos, which could pose a risk
to all countries in the region.”
The Iranian minister also affirmed that the presence of Iranian advisors in Syria was primarily to
combat fighters from the terrorist group “Islamic State” and “ISIS” as well as other terrorist
groups present in the Middle East.
