Egypt Arrests Notorious International Egyptian Hacker in Coordination with the FBI
In a first-of-its-kind operation, Egypt’s Administrative Control Authority and security agencies, in coordination with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), have successfully apprehended one of the most dangerous international Egyptian hackers.
The hacker, who styled himself as “The Black Knight,” was accused of human trafficking and blackmailing over 100 underage foreign girls, along with several Egyptian and Arab girls online. He employed sophisticated methods to hack into personal accounts, blackmailing his victims by threatening to publish compromising images and videos unless they paid him significant sums of money. Additionally, he followed through on his threats by sending false complaints to the victims’ educational institutions and sports organizations, causing them severe psychological and social harm.
Investigations revealed that the accused had a prior criminal record involving cybercrimes, for which he had previously been sentenced to 18 months in prison across three different cases. He amassed around $130,000 USD and 80,000 Egyptian pounds through these blackmail operations, which included four Egyptian girls, three Arab nationals, and over 100 foreign girls, predominantly from New Jersey, USA.
After his arrest,
He was referred to the Public Prosecution, which charged him with human trafficking and sent him to the criminal court. Initially sentenced to 5 years in prison, both the prosecution and the defense appealed the verdict, leading to a retrial at the Court of Appeal for Terrorism Crimes, which then sentenced him to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of 4 million Egyptian pounds, along with the confiscation of seized assets.
The court rejected the defense’s argument that the crime occurred outside Egypt, affirming that Egypt is a signatory to the international protocol against human trafficking, and Egyptian laws prosecute such transnational crimes under Law No. 64 of 2010.
In conclusion, the court sent a message to parents about the necessity of monitoring their children’s online activities, warning about the dangers of online blackmail, and urged educational institutions to intensify efforts to curb the spread of such crimes.
