The next “24 to 48 hours are going to be crucial” in the conflict, Mahjoob Zweiri of Qatar University, told Al Jazeera after Israel warned Gaza City residents to leave.
“It’s obvious there are a lot of diplomatic efforts going on led by the US but also other regional communications as well going on. It’s obvious the US is trying to push for a solution, for a proposal, that makes Israel a winner of this confrontation.
“I think that [evacuation order] also pushed the diplomatic effort to be quicker so they can have an impact. The two things are happening at the same time, and it will be important to see who will be affecting the other,” Zweiri said.
