February 21 (SeeNews) – Romanian automotive battery producer Rombat said on Tuesday that it will invest 10 million euro ($10.6 million) in a new production line, the construction of two photovoltaic (PV) parks, staff trainings and office space improvements this year.
This is the company’s largest investment in the last decade, Rombat said in a press release.
The semi-automated production line will produce heavy duty automotive batteries for heavy tonnage vehicles.
One of the two planned solar parks will have an installed capacity of 4.2 MW and will be co-financed with funds from Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
The other one will have an installed capacity of 1 MW and will be installed at the company’s battery recycling facility in Copsa Mica, in the central county of Sibiu.
“These three major investments will help us achieve our carbon footprint reduction goals, maintain our competitiveness, optimise operating costs and secure a significantly greater degree of energy independence” said CEO of Rombat, Alin Ioanes.
Rombat was established in 1980 as a Romanian battery manufacturer for the automotive industry. The company was owned by the Romanian state until 1996, when it was bought by employees. Since 2012, Rombat has been owned by South African group Metair. Rombat has a strategic partnership with Dacia Renault and since 2017 has been a supplier for Ford’s factory in Craiova.
