Heads of government are also expected to attend the Arab Development Summit in Mauritania and the Arab-African Summit in Saudi Arabia this year as well.
On Sunday, the League of Arab States’ (LAS) Assistant Secretary-General, Hossam Zaki, confirmed that the 32nd summit of the LAS is due to take place in Saudi Arabia on May 19 this year.
“The 32nd Arab summit is expected to be held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on May 19,” Zaki said in his statement, adding that heads of government are also expected to attend the Arab Development Summit in Mauritania and the Arab-African Summit in Saudi Arabia this year as well.
The previous summit, the 31st, was held in Algeria in November 2022, and was attended by 16 Arab presidents.
The Secretary-General of the organization, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, pointed out during his speech at the 31st Arab Summit last year that “several Arab countries are living in dire security situations, such as terrorism, militias, armed groups, and parties that foment sedition and meddle in the Arab countries’ affairs.”
He also said that “the world stands still and does not advocate the two-state solution,” claiming that “the Arabs insist on the establishment of the Palestinian state based on the 1967 border.”
“We call on all the countries in the world to join my peaceful goals for the sake of the inclusion of Palestine and obtaining full membership at the United Nations,” Aboul Gheit said.
The Secretary-General added, “We want this summit to be a true summit of unity and restoration of the Arab willpower.”
This coming summit in May follows the Saudi Arabia-Iran pact, that not only shows regional fortification but may demonstrate an even stronger show of ties at the upcoming Arab Summit.
For instance, the GCC issued a statement where it welcomed the agreement on the restoration of diplomatic ties between Iran and Saudi Arabia after being severed for seven years. The statement referred to the agreement as a step forward toward resolving differences and ending regional conflicts and tension.
