The Arab League Council urged today the International Criminal Court to complete the criminal investigation into war crimes and crimes against humanity committed and still being committed by Israel against the defenseless Palestinian people.
These crimes include settlement and annexation, aggression against cities, villages and camps, the killing of civilians, journalists and paramedics, as well as forced displacement of Palestinians from their homes, the Council said in a statement after an emergency meeting at the level of permanent delegates in Cairo.
The Council called for discussing and confronting the continuous Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people and providing them with international protection.
It also called on the International Criminal Court to study all options through which it can exercise its jurisdiction in the occupied land of the State of Palestine, to complete the investigation, provide all the human and material capabilities for this investigation, and to give it the necessary priority.
The Council condemned the widespread Israeli aggression, siege and crimes against the Palestinian people in Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip, Jenin, Nablus, Jericho, Ramallah and the rest of the Palestinian cities, villages and camps.
It as well condemned the barbaric Israeli raids on the Gaza Strip, which targeted civilians, children and women in residential neighborhoods while they were sleeping safely in their homes, which claimed the lives of entire families and dozens of victims, wounded and detainees.
The Council called on the UN Security Council to assume its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security, and to exert the necessary pressure on Israel, the occupying power, to stop its aggression and siege imposed on the Palestinian people, which violates international law, the United Nations Charter, international humanitarian law and international human rights law, and to hold Israel responsible for the results of all aggression.
The Council also called on the international community to implement resolutions related to the protection of Palestinian civilians, in particular UN Security Council Resolutions No. 904 (1994) and No. 605 (1987), and United Nations General Assembly Resolution on the Protection of Palestinian Civilians No. 20/10-ES/RES/A (2018).
It urged states and international community institutions to participate in the protection of Palestinian civilians and to form a practical and effective mechanism to implement what was stated in the General Assembly resolution.
The Arab League body called on the UN Secretary-General to implement practical and effective options to protect Palestinian civilians, urging the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention to shoulder their responsibilities and ensure respect and enforcement of the Convention in the occupied territory of the State of Palestine, including East Jerusalem, by stopping Israeli crimes and violations of international humanitarian law and human rights.
The Council called on the international community to put pressure on Israel to allow the ongoing fact-finding committee established by the Human Rights Council on May 21, 2021, to enter the territory of the occupied State of Palestine to exercise its mandate in fact-finding about Israeli crimes and violations committed in the Palestinian territory, calling on the committee to follow up on all Israeli violations and crimes within its mandate and to submit its reports and recommendations in this regard.
The Council expressed full solidarity with the Palestinian people, and supported their steadfastness in the face of the continuous and escalating Israeli aggression against them, their legitimate right to self-defense, offering condolences to the families of the martyrs and victims of the aggression.
The Arab League Secretary-General called on the missions of the League of Arab States and councils of Arab ambassadors around the world to take diplomatic action in capitals and regional and international organizations, in order to convey the goals and contents of this statement, appreciating the continuous Egyptian and Arab efforts to stop the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.
