Iranian Minister of Economy Ehsan Khandozi arrived in Riyadh at the head of an economic delegation, in what is the first visit by an Iranian official to Saudi Arabia since the two countries agreed to resume their diplomatic relations.
The Iranian government said, in a statement today, Thursday: “Economy Minister Ehsan Khandozi arrives in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, at the head of an economic delegation, where bilateral meetings with Saudi officials and speeches at the Islamic Development Bank meeting will be among the most important goals of this visit.”
“This is the first visit of an official from the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia after the recent agreement between the two countries to restore relations,” she added.
Earlier this month, the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Nasser Kanaani, announced the resumption of the activities of 3 Iranian representations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
“We are in the first phase of resuming the activity of the diplomatic missions of the two countries, and the necessary measures are being implemented quickly,” Kanaani said.
Saudi Arabia and Iran reached an agreement, sponsored by China, to resume diplomatic relations between them, which had been severed for the past seven years.
The agreement between the two countries provides for the resumption of diplomatic relations between Riyadh and Tehran, within 60 days, since it was announced on March 10.
