A new report in the Cuban Daily, Granma, reveals that individuals and groups were incited and financed by the US to commit infractions of the law, acts of violence, robbery, and assault.
The US government was directly involved and bears responsibility for the July 11-12, 2021 riots that took place in Cuba, according to a report published in the Communist Party-led newspaper Granma.
From inside US territories, the report noted, individuals and groups were incited and financed to commit violations of the law, acts of violence, robbery, assault, and aggression.
These incitements were carried out at a time when the world was struggling from the Covid-19 pandemic and Washington tightened the blockade against Cuba, the report stated.
The report also mentions that prior to the protests, the US launched a campaign of disinformation and slander across multiple media platforms. The report grounds its accusations in evidence provided by Dr. Manuel Hevia Frasquieri in his book Cuba, A Failed Soft Coup.
The book defines the violent street riots of the summer of 2021 as a typical subversive regime change operation secretly led by the CIA and the US intelligence community. These accusations have proven to have also been in line with more than $400 million programs implemented against Cuba since 2008, both inside and outside the country.
The US approach, according to the report, appeals to lies and cynicism in an attempt to shove Cuba into any list that discredits it, isolates it, and allows it to justify its policy of encirclement and suffocation, also known as the blockade, to procure a social outburst as soon as possible.
The White House unscrupulously tried to take advantage of the difficulties generated by the pandemic to attack the island with more force, to intensify coercive measures, and to try to achieve its destructive objectives.
According to the report, during 2023, more than 300 calls were registered from the United States and other countries to act against the Cuban government, all of them aimed at conveying the perception of a favorable scenario to reissue the attempt of a “soft coup” against the Caribbean nation.
It also stated that “Slander promoted by the White House, related to events it sponsored in 2021, is used as a pretext to maintain a policy of maximum pressure against Cuba.”
The article detailed that contrary to the falsehoods promoted by the US, those imprisoned following the protests have been proven guilty of having participated in vandalism or alteration of public order. Furthermore, no person was charged for peacefully demonstrating nor were minors detained.
Faced with a scenario in which Washington and its mercenaries instigate violent acts as part of a media show to multiply the erroneous image of ungovernability, social instability, and destabilization, Granma reported that the key defense measure would have been the unity of the vast majority of Cubans.

Jeremy Kuzmarov, Managing Editor of CovertAction Magazine, believed that the United States, after lying about multiple global scandals like WMDs in Iraq and chemical weapons in Syria, is now pushing the myth that Cuba is home to a Chinese espionage facility.
The Wall Street Journal released a report that China and Cuba signed a deal on June 8 to establish an electronic eavesdropping station on the island, and China planned to pay cash-strapped Cuba billions of dollars as part of the discussions.
However, the White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby had stated in an MSNBC interview that the report was inaccurate and that the US was watching Chinese influence activities globally.
An anonymous source told US intel that a deal was struck but no movement has begun on building the spy facility.
Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cosso stated that speculation of a spy base is generating “harm and alarm without observing minimum patterns of communication and without providing data or evidence to support what they disseminate.”
Kuzmarov stated that the fabrication was intended to rally public support for Biden’s aspirations of regime change.
Many Cubans had hoped that Biden’s election would usher in a return to the Obama era when the US attempted to bury the final remnant of the Cold War by establishing diplomatic ties with Havana and pushing for an end to the embargo. However, when protests erupted early in Biden’s presidency, the Biden administration backed the dissidents while doubling down on Donald Trump’s hardline anti-Cuba policy.
According to Yuri Gala López, the Ambassador of the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the UN, sanctions costs Cubans $455 million per month.
Obama claimed that making it easier for Americans to visit Cuba and participate in its fledgling private sector had a greater chance of fostering economic and political improvements on the island than Washington’s more combative regime-change approach since the 1960s. However, as a US Senator in 1996, Biden backed strengthening the already damaging U.S. embargo on Cuba with the Helms-Burton Act, which was signed into law by President Bill Clinton.
Helms-Burton was described by Fidel Castro as a “shameful” measure that laid the path for “economic genocide.” Hence, it essentially made it official US policy to advocate regime change in Cuba, in addition to increasing economic restrictions.
