Adopted the final declaration of the fifteenth summit in Johannesburg.
Ramaphosa pointed out that the full membership of the new BRICS countries will begin, on January 1, 2024, stressing that the admission of new members is the first stage of the expansion of the five countries, and other stages will follow.
The third day of the BRICS 2023 summit kicks off in the presence of the group’s leaders.
Speaking at the summit via video link, Russian President Vladimir Putin said President Ramaphosa had shown incredible diplomatic skill in coordinating all positions, including those related to the expansion of the BRICS.
The Russian president added “I would like to thank our friends in South Africa for what they have done in the context of joint action, namely working to agree on the declarations, and I must point out that, as turned out later, this work was not easy.”
