Jan Egeland, Secretary-General of the Norwegian Refugee Council, has denounced Israel’s order to forcibly evacuate over a million Palestinians from northern Gaza as a “war crime”.
In an interview with Sky News, Egeland urged Western and Arab countries to press Israel to lift the order.
“Under international humanitarian law, it is called forcible transfer of population and it is a war crime,” he said, while pointing out that the order does not include “a real promise to return at any point”.
“It is an outrage.”
