Israeli police today prevented young Palestinians and students from entering the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem’s Old City for either worship or to attend schools inside the walled compound, while Jewish fanatics were allowed in freely, reported WAFA correspondent.
He said police manning the gates to Al-Aqsa Mosque stopped people reaching the compound to worship, turning back the young ones and allowing in only the elderly.
Students who attend schools located inside the compound were also not allowed in to attend classes.
At the same time, the police allowed the entry of Jewish fanatics who roamed the yards of the Muslim holy site, holding religious rituals at times in violation of orders regarding the status of the Mosque as a purely Muslim worship area.
Even on Fridays, when usually 50,000 to 60,000 people attend the Friday prayers at Al-Aqsa, only 5,000 people attended the prayers in the past two weeks due to the tight and heavy Israeli restrictions on entry of Palestinians to the compound.
