President Mahmoud Abbas received a phone call today from Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during which they discussed the latest developments in the Palestinian territories, particularly the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza.
President Abbas emphasized the urgent need for an immediate and unconditional cessation of Israeli hostilities in the Gaza Strip, calling for the establishment of permanent humanitarian corridors to allow the swift entry of relief supplies, medical aid, food, and the provision of water and electricity to besieged Gaza.
Addressing the alarming attacks on civilians in hospitals and Orthodox churches, as well as the demolition of residential buildings, President Abbas deemed these acts as heinous crimes that cannot be overlooked. He reiterated Palestine’s firm rejection of the forced displacement of Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem.
President Abbas underscored the importance of implementing a political solution based on international legitimacy, ensuring the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights, freedom, independence, and sovereignty.
Such a solution, he emphasized, would guarantee security and stability for everyone in the region, emphasizing the inefficacy of any military or security approach in addressing the situation in Gaza.
Prime Minister Mitsotakis, who is currently participating in a meeting of European Union leaders, assured President Abbas that the EU Council is closely monitoring the latest developments.
He pledged to brief EU leaders on Palestinian demands and the ongoing developments, remaining in continuous communication with the President in the coming period to address the evolving situation.
