Gaza’s only lifeline to the outside world was closed to pre-approved evacuees on Friday, Egyptian security sources and a Palestinian official told Reuters.
The suspension was due to problems bringing medical evacuees to the Rafah border crossing, although it is unclear how those issues would affect the departure of foreign passport holders.
A group of 34 Brazilians trapped in Gaza were turned away from the border on Friday; their predicament has led Brazilian officials to believe that Israel is acting too slowly in ensuring they get out. Israel has blamed Hamas for the delays.
Limited evacuations from Gaza began on November 1 and have been paused twice in the past week due to Israeli bombardments.
